Staffs are friendly and interior is not too bad. For the price against its flavour, this is mediocre. Somehow the dishes look really strong in flavours and colours but they aren’t.
The ones that were enjoyable: cendol, Pai tee, ladies finger with sambal, asam prawn. The gula melaka was nice in the cendol was nice and they let you add you own amount of gula melaka.
The chilli garam chicken felt alittle out of place. It isn’t exactly salty nor spicy and the chicken was quite a lot of flour?
This is my second visit to Big Baba @ Happy Mansion.
Atmosphere : there is a private room. Furnishings are mixed and matched. Feels like a home turned into a restaurant and trying to fit maximum seating. So, feels a bit run down. But, still good for a good time with family and friends.
Service : friendly and responsive. No local hospitality this time. This out is fully manned by foreign workers.
Food:
Beef rendang. I find it sweet. Otherwise it is good.
Chicken kapitan : sweet and not as fragrance as my first visit. Good portion.
Ladies fingers with sambal. This on is not good. Okra was cut uneven. Hard (old) okra was served. Sambal was chilli hot, tasted a bit raw to me.
Sambal grilled fish (ikan Cincaru) : two fishes on this dish. Best among dishes this evening. I don’t like Cincaru fish because of the scales. Taste good.
Kailan with garlic. Good.
Heard good reviews about Big Baba restaurant and decided to come here for dinner.
Food was tasty in a homely kind of way, reminiscent of something your grandma or mom cooked for you. Portion was on smaller side though. Nonetheless, I enjoyed the dining experience here.
Best to call ahead and book as there are limited seatings and it’s almost always crowded.
Basically everything is very good & satisfying. However, the keluak chicken is kinda salty & nutty taste, & may not be to everybody’s liking.
The dessert, blue pea flower sago is very yummy. The gula melaka is fragrance and the coconut milk is fresh.
Enak sekali! Delicious peranakan food, full of flavour, Malaccan style. The cencaru sumbat sambal is fresh, with well pounded sambal ingredients. The rendang keluak is tender beef with delectable kelauk sauce, perfect. Terung masak tempra is also very good. All in all highly recommended ❤️
