We love our Kuching Kueh Chap, so we had to try Penang Kueh Chap. It’s quite similar to Kuching except for the kueh, which is like broader and thicker strips of kueh teow, and the soup tastes slightly sweet from the spices used. My uncle was very happy with it and finished every drop of it.

The best koay chap I have eaten so far. Highly recommended. This stall is inside Chow Yang coffee shop.

Come here for the koay chap

Koay chap or kwai chap has slight variation depending on where it comes from – or at least that was what die-hard or hardcore fans of this dish told me la, especially those from Sarawak and Penang who are proud of their own heritage creation. Personally I didn’t know how to differentiate – I just know when I tasted a good bowl.

Anything that comes from Penang, one of my favourite-est states to go for food, I would go and try. As we all know, SS2 is notoriously infamous for the traffic so I’m not going to elaborate more on this. Madam Leow is just like a regukar kopitiam without any air-conditioning and it could get quite hot & stuffy especially in the afternoon.

◾Penang koay chap – true to the name, their signature koay chap tasted good, filled with thin rice sheets and completed with pork meat and offals (spare parts la…), Hard boiled egg, doused with piping hot broth. They did the traditional Teochew Chinese dish justice.
◾Igor’s Penang char koay teow (duck egg) – not sure why they called their CKT Igor, maybe it was their chef’s name 🤷🏻 . While I appreciate the fact that they use duck egg and the flavour hit the right spot, a bit more wok hei and the whole plate would be just nice.
◾braised angelica roots pig trotter – forgot if I ever tasted the herbal flavour of angelica roots, but the pork trotter’s texture was tender and flavourful. Easily go with a bowl of rice.
◾Nasi lemak pork rendang – didn’t get to taste this as the hungry son proceed to clean up the plate. He said “good” but he’s not a fussy eater.

Reason to come – koay chap! And the pork trotter. Haven’t got the chance to try others yet.

Delightful find in SS2 with authentic home cooked Penang delicacies. The tau yue bak brought back nostalgic memories of my mother-in-law’s cooking. The stew pork intestines, soy sauce taufu and koay chap brought back toe simplicity of these traditional dishes and were delicious. Also tried the duck egg Penang fried koay teow. Down side of the char koay teow was the missing cockles. Unfortunately the day we went, they were unable to get their fresh supply of cockles from the market. Without cockles, even with good wok hei, the char koay teow was not the same.

One of the best in town. Consistently good. This has been my regular all these years. Everything is fresh. Whole egg is given too. Reasonably priced at RM11.
