I’ve been a loyal patron of South Sea Restaurant since childhood, and it consistently delivers on taste. While the prices, particularly for seafood like fish and prawns, are on the higher side, the freshness justifies the cost. After many years, the quality and flavor remain remarkably consistent.
However, the service, primarily from the foreign staff and order takers, leaves much to be desired. One order taker, who has been there for years, is notably unfriendly. The rest of the serving staff, even with masks on, convey a sense of dissatisfaction with their jobs. Basic requests, such as for condiments like chili, require prompting and are often met with a reluctant or dismissive response. This lack of attentive service detracts from the overall dining experience. When paying premium prices for fresh seafood, one expects a higher standard of service. Unfortunately, South Sea Restaurant falls short in this area.
Hidden gem. The place is big, with many tables. There is an air-conditioning section. Lots of parking in front and at the back. Waiters and waitresses are well dressed in smart uniforms with masks and caps. Service is professional and good. Prices of food are a little higher than normal. But the service charge is 5% only, plus service tax 6%.
The only issue with the place is that it is a little dark. The toilet is also dark.
They have many live fish and sea creatures, like big craps and lobsters. The cost of fish is not less than RM200 per kg.
We did not order fish or seafood except for the clams.
All the dishes were good. Fried Kai lan, fried chicken, stir fry beef, fried tofu top with some crispy veg, clams in rice wine soup and yam cake.
Certainly, a good place for a meal. Everyone agreed it was satisfying.
Spend my New years eve dinner with the fam bam. Great ambiance and fresh seafood. Cooking style was delicious. Definately will come back again
One of my favourite places for seafood. This time I came with my husband for the Australian lobster cooked in creamy butter. To supplement the lobster, we ordered some mantao buns and Chinese fried rice. We enjoyed it all. We started dining at 6 p.m. when it was just starting to fill up with guests for dinner. Service gets a wee bit slow when it’s full house. We ordered a 2nd serving of Chinese fried rice, but it never came. Turns out the worker didn’t understand us. But we didn’t make a fuss. It is what it is.
My nephew took us for a fantastic lunch and splurged.
Ordered spider crab (kamheong & salted egg butter + man tou), scallops (with broccoli), oysters (baked + raw), prawns (butter nestum, I think).
The food was simply amazing.
I seriously didn’t know the total amount incurred, so, I just put an estimate.
