It has been a while since I last dined at Nirvana, my preferred restaurant for banana leaf rice. While the food was still tasty, the quality seemed slightly below my usual expectations. The rice was a bit too soft, and the curry lacked the intensity of flavor I remember from previous visits.
The food here was okay. I got the Banana Leaf set and some Mutton Curry and both tasted decent. But the overall experience could have been so much better:
1. The busboy kept spraying my food with the cleaning solution while cleaning the table next to me twice.
2.The waiters serve food as if serving to a prisoner. No smile and no explanation. You would feel guilty asking anything.
3. There are too many waiters but they all walk past you without even when you are trying to get their attention.
4. When I got there there was a line. While I was in the line a guy came up with an ipad to take my order. At no point before ordering was I given a menu. I had no clue what was on the menu. He told me 4 options and I had to select right on the spot for him. I have been to many restaurants where they take the order while in line but they always hand over a menu to look at. Even after having eaten at this place I have no clue what all dishes they offer.
Many people recommended this Michelin place for banana leaf rice. Probably my lucky day as it was not packed during lunch hour on a weekday. Had curry mutton which is tender and aromatic. Love the old school orange juice. Others were just ok for me. Papadum too oily for my liking. Do give a try and have your own opinion about the place/taste.
NEVER COMING BACK – It has always been a 5-stars for me but I will never come back after this visit. I started with a small amount of veggie sides and rice as always then to top up after. Little did I know, adding a little side dish now requires RM2 EACH!!! Like 2 tiny pieces of pumpkin will cost you an additional RM2! IS THIS EVEN BANANA LEAF RICE ANYMORE 🤦♀️ There are so many other places that I can visit anyways.
Visited this Michelin guided banana leaf restaurant and found the experience quite disappointing overall. The rice was too wet, lacking fragrance and proper texture, which impacted the entire meal. The curry had no depth of flavor—just a generic sour taste that didn’t satisfy. The fried cucumber served with the set was cold and oily, which added to the letdown.
The only saving grace was the Chicken 65. It was well-marinated with a nice flavor. Masala tea was okay, mediocre experience.
