I have been here a few times, and honestly the quality is not as good as before.
Took away a few dishes and despite the higher price, the siew yoke crust is not crunchy, but tough. The char sieu, although nice but would be better if not as sweet. Their rice is disappointing, dry and bland.
Toast and Roast. Didn’t see any toast but that roasted Char Siew, OMG. Best Char Siew I’ve ever had.
My friend has been raving about this shop, best char siew in the world and I finally got to try it this trip.
Famous for their char siew and they certainly lived up to their name. I’ve never had char siew so tender and melt-in-your-mouth yet not sweet and doesn’t have caramelized char sticking to your teeth. I can’t find better words to describe it, you just have to try it yourself and I guarantee it’s worth every cent and calorie. This is the kind of standard and quality of food that I’ll travel the distance for.
The Hakka Noodles were great too, a bouncy texture to the noodles, topped generously with seasoned minced pork. Quite a big portion too. The deep fried wantons and dumplings were ok, crispy and good but not wow. Was a little disappointed with the Roast Pork, it looked promising but the crunch wasn’t there. But the char siew alone is enough for me to want to return.
Bean spout was fresh but the setback was the sauce being too sweet not matching with the char siew and chicken rice.
Personally we find the char siew is too sticky for the teeth.
Hakka noodles textual is good and recommend to order if u r there.
Nice place serving hakka noodles served with cha siew, siew Yik, etc. Their signature noodles costing about RM19 per bowl is expensive. Take the one that is not signature.
Cha siew is not to my liking a it is very soft like melt in your mouth kind. Fatty n tasty. I prefer those that is a little more chewy and with bite. This is to each personal preference.
The Har kow is not to the expectation.
Would not go again as I prefer meat that is more chewy. It’s tasty I must say.
The noodles is very fragrant with the pork oil. Smells great n taste good but after a number of bites I find the oil a little overwhelmed to my liking.
Just before Chinese New Year, that is on Chinese New Year’s Eve, I went over to this shop to get dinner for my family. I was already very exhausted with the spring cleaning of my house plus the last minute decoration of my house that I didn’t want to cook dinner that evening. So I went to buy wanton Mee for 3 pax. Luckily there was no queue n it was not as busy as usual as many families were enjoying their reunion dinners at home. I ordered 3 pax of Cher Siew n Siew yuk dry wanton noodles. Outside the shop, they have installed a hand sanitizer for all their customers. This is the only shop with this facility. Came home n ate the noodles. The char Siew was so well grilled n aromatic – it really melted in your mouth. The Siew yuk was crispy as well. It really made our day.
