Walking into this house brings me back to the 80s when visiting my great grannys – a typical wooden chinese settler dwelling with concrete flooring, high ceilings, on a massive compound with a toilet detached at the rear. Bak kut teh is served by a friendly hokkien lady who is multi-lingual. She has been living on-prem for the last 35 odd years, after getting wed she tells me. A single portion had so much meat, balanced with a generous amount of straw mushrooms and green lettuce and taufu puffs. A loaded meal in a comfortable, homely setting. Parking is available at the temple front and a short walk is much needed after a heavy meal anyways.
A BKT connoisseur would recognise this classic traditional taste. It’s very hard to find this type of authentic timeless flavour (古早味) nowadays. Do come early, or you will be in vain because the delish BKT fly off the shelves in no time. Managed by a very friendly aunty who has continued the legacy of her late husband. Please render your support, you won’t be disappointed.
Housed in residential estate area. Seems to serve many regular customers, with one packing large portions home. Soup with slightly bitter taste. It’s not my kind of soup, but it may be due to personal preference.
I’ve been coming to this spot for 25 years. Aunty and Uncle, you will know me la, every Friday come for lunch.
BKT among the best, hearthy broth, and dark. Not the typical vege, but among the best tasting BKT in this area.
Parking is horrible, normally park at the Temple area, and walk up. Great place to meet up as well when the crowds have dispersed.
Nice, fair priced BKT. Friendly lady operator. Comfortable environment. The only problem there is parking but if you go on weekends, early morning when is not crowded. One can relax and enjoy a wholesome meal of herbal pork goodness with friends and family. Have tea and chat for a while.
