This nasi kandar stall has been one of my best favourite in town for some years now. Today I revisited to have a taste of their delicious offerings just so I could scratch that nasi kandar itch of mine. They have now switched to a semi self service where you get your plate of steaming rice and fill it up with whatever dishes you want. The famous ayam goreng is a must so that’s what I got and for additional proteins, I got a serving of kambing kambing gulai. Next, the taugeh is a good complement to balance off the heavy curries and it gives a good crunch. Let’s talk about the ayam goreng first. It’s their signature dish here and one can easily agree. The chicken was crispy, sizeable and meat was moist. The rempah delivered a very good aroma and the batter wasn’t too heavy. Having said that, I’m unsure if it might be a conscious decision but today the chicken seem bit smaller. Don’t get me wrong because the size now is definitely not tiny but I recall the ayam goreng was bigger and juicier compared to mine today. The kambing gulai today was sadly bit chewy and I would have enjoyed it if it was more tender. The winner for me here was their blend curry offerings. I don’t just mean the variety of it but also the taste. I personally like how it was cooked with noticeable aromatics and spices yet all the ingredients somehow felt perfectly balanced and tuned. The consistency of their curries were done just right in my opinion – rich but not too thick or slurry like. The only drawback to dining here would be the lack of parking during peak hours and the dining environment here can get uncomfortable as one will no doubt smell like nasi kandar as you leave the place. Overall, I still hold my opinion that this is one of the best nasi kandar in town.
The famous Nasi Kandar at PJ Old Town Food Court draws long queues during lunch hours for good reason. Their standout feature is the huge and delicious fried chicken drumsticks that keep patrons coming back. The menu boasts a variety of delectable dishes, catering to diverse tastes. What’s equally impressive is the friendly and efficient staff who make the dining experience pleasant. If you’re willing to wait in line, this spot offers an unforgettable Malaysian culinary adventure that’s worth the visit.
1. Authentic Nasi Kandar,so delicious.
2. Affordable price. RM6.50 for small portions, already full.If you had King Kong appetite, go for bigger portions, big chicken, 10.
3. The bad and funny thing is their kitchen Team, always fighting each other during work.
My first time trying it and I must say I dont mind to come again to give it another chance or test. I like the fact that I can select the food.
A few curries that I tried are thick, tasty and unique. But in general spice level is somewhat lacking, and heat level too.
Fried chicken is lightly coated.
Tried kari sotong, nice gravy but rubbery sotong.
Rice is also a bit mushy to my liking.
There is not much I want to say about the legendary Zainul Nasi Kandar PJ, it is still delicious from the past until now ..
